Elmira blows out Brampton, 6-1Victoria Park Arena Fri, Jan 15, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brampton Bombers had trouble finding ways to stop the Elmira Sugar Kings, which beat Bombers, 6-1. Elmira's Liam Devine was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 52 saves and let only one puck past him. Devine certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.95 entering the contest. The Sugar Kings were sparked by Ryan Maksymyk, who tallied one goal. Maksymyk scored 13:23 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Elmira. Ryan Walsh provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 3:38 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Elmira forced Brampton's goaltenders to work in net, taking 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Eric Pitcher made 14 stops and Jason Rhynold made 21. The Sugar Kings stifled the Bombers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Elmira bested its season scoring average. This season, the Sugar Kings average 3.6 goals per contest. Elmira also got points from Ethan Skinner, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Zac Coulter, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Elmira included Quinten Bruce, Jake Moggy, and Kevin Fitzpatrick, who scored one goal each. In addition, Elmira received assists from Kalob Witzell, who had two, Mackenzie MacSorley, who had three, and Jeff Jordan and Alex Peterson, who contributed one each. Brampton's offense operated below its season average. The Bombers average 3.1 goals per game. Elmira was unable to stop Brampton from sending pucks towards the net, and the Bombers eventually piled up 53 shots on goal. Adel Zivojevic also scored for Brampton. More assists for Brampton came via Wyatt Weppler and Nolan Regan, who each chipped in one. The Sugar Kings totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 2-for-4 on the power play. For Elmira, Coulter was ejected from the game. Brampton totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Bombers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Drew Stirling was ejected from the game.
