Cambridge falters on penalty kill, loses to Brantford 7-2Gretzky Main Rink Thu, Jan 14, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
A rash of penalties cost the Cambridge Winter Hawks the game, as the Brantford 99ers netted four goals with a man advantage in a 7-2 win. Brantford was led by Jay Dekker, who racked up one goal and one assist. Dekker scored 6:44 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Brantford. Matthew Woods picked up the assist. The 99ers racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Brantford had been spending in the box. The 99ers outdid their season average for goals scored. Brantford averages 2.9 goals per game. Brantford also got points from Justin Donnelly, who also had one goal and two assists, Jack Phibbs, who also registered one goal and one assist, Isaac Nurse, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Woods, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Brantford also had goals scored by Christian Polillo and Guy Polillo, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Matt Scanlin, Jonathan Pace, and Nick Visser, who contributed one each and Kyle Walker and Brandon Scanlin, who each chipped in two. Cambridge forced the 99ers goalie Will Rawski to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Winter Hawks were led by Tyler Harrison, who racked up one goal and one assist. Harrison scored on the power play 19:10 into the third period to make the score 7-2 Brantford. Cambridge had gotten the advantage when Brantford's Scanlin was sent off for roughing. Cambridge totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For the Winter Hawks, Harlen VanWynsberghe was ejected from the game.
