London beats Sarnia 5-3 after comeback scare

The London Nationals survived a determined comeback attempt by the Sarnia Legionnaires on the way to a 5-3 win.

A goal by Tanner Ferreira put London up 5-1 in the second period, but Sarnia pulled to within two on Ryan Vendramin's tally 19:43 into the third period.

John Warren had one goal and two assists to lead the Nationals. Warren scored 10:16 into the second period to make the score 4-1 London. John Adams picked up the assist.

London forced the Legionnaires' goalies to work between the pipes, ripping 39 shots and forcing 34 saves. Shayne Battler made zero stops and Aidan Hughes made 34.

London also got points from Adams, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for London included Austin Kemp and Matt Doty, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for London were Kevin Madden, Tyler Sehovic, Rai Di Loreto, Sam Harris, Trevor Dulong, Brenden Trottier, and Max Vinogradov, who contributed one each.

Sarnia was helped by Jordan Fogarty, who finished with one goal. Fogarty scored on the power play 11:50 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Sarnia. The Legionnaires had gotten the advantage when the Nationals' Derek Di Iorio was sent off for interference. Vendramin assisted on the tally. Sarnia additionally got points from Vendramin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Sarnia also got a goal from Ethan Dupont as well. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Jacob Stos, Jarret Marks, Brandon Layman, Brock Perry, and Brad Yowart, who each chipped in one.

London's Zack Weir stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Nationals incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Sarnia incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
