Broomhead nets hat trick, leads Stratford to 6-3 win over Listowel

The Listowel Cyclones could not stop the Stratford Cullitons' Hayden Broomhead, who tallied a hat trick in a 6-3 win.

Broomhead's first goal came 3:13 into the second period. He then added goals at 7:32 into the second and at 15:56 into the second.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:29 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Stratford's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Cullitons surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Stratford forced Listowel goalie Tyler Fassl to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Stratford additionally got points from Deven Kropf, who also had one goal and one assist and Tyson Baker, who also registered one goal and one assist. Justin Graham also scored for Stratford. In addition, Stratford received assists from Zach Van Louwe and Josh Miller, who contributed one each and Cooper Stahl, Anthony Kotsovos, and Jack Scanlan, who each chipped in two.

The Cyclones racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game Listowel had been spending in the box.

The Cyclones were led by Brady Anderson, who finished with two goals and one assist. Anderson scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Listowel had gotten the advantage when the Cullitons' Graham was sent off for slashing. Jakob Lee provided the assist. Anderson's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Listowel with 7:56 left in the first period. A roughing penalty on Mathieu Mercier had put the Cyclones on the power play. Ben Shelley picked up the assist. Listowel also got points from Shelley, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Listowel came via Kade Landry, who had one and Jamie Huber, who had two.

Alexander Brooks-Potts recorded 25 saves for Stratford. The Cullitons registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Stratford, Kotsovos, Jared Nash, and Scanlan were ejected from the contest. Listowel's Fassl stopped 28 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Cyclones registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Listowel ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Holdyn Lansink was ejected from the game.
