Welland outlasts Pelham, 4-2Pelham Meridian CC Fri, Jan 08, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Welland Jr. Canadians and the Pelham Panthers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Welland made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Adam Barron at 18:16 of the second period. The Jr. Canadians were sparked by Barron, who registered one goal. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:54 into the third period. Ten fighting penalties were dished out along with seven game misconducts. Welland put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Pelham to score on any of its three power plays. The Panthers were unable to stop the Jr. Canadians from sending pucks towards the net, and Welland eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. The Jr. Canadians got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Welland additionally got points from Matt Martin, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jake Shaw, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Nathan Ferris also scored for Welland. More assists for Welland came via Cameron Aitken, who had two and Max Cipriano, Nathan MacDuff, Brayden Crowder, and Andy Paul, who contributed one each. Pelham was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and three majors for 33 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game. Pelham was helped by Adam Petric, who racked up one goal. Petric scored 10:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pelham. Jeffrey Venzon picked up the assist. Pelham also got a goal from Bradley Smith as well. In addition, Pelham received assists from Caleb Mussat, Thomas Young, and Riley Hollowell, who each chipped in one. Brandon McCorriston rejected 14 shots on goal for Welland. The Jr. Canadians totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 1-for-9 on the power play. For Welland, Chad Maurice and Barron were ejected from the contest. Stephen Harvey made 46 saves for the Panthers on 49 shots. Team's Spencer Comelli, Mitch Rossit, and Petric were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
