Caledonia uses big second period to beat Ancaster, 6-2Haldimand Center Sun, Jan 03, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Caledonia Corvairs used a three-goal second period to put away the Ancaster Avalanche, 6-2. Caledonia pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 71 penalty minutes. The Corvairs were led by Quentin Maksimovich, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Maksimovich scored 1:36 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Caledonia. Tait Seguin picked up the assist. Caledonia forced Avalanche's netminders to work all game long, taking 48 shots and forcing 42 saves. Cole Ceci made 40 stops and Matt Calas made two. Caledonia also got points from Mitchell Fitzmorris, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points, Jake Brown, who also had one goal and one assist, and Matthew Hore, who also registered one goal and one assist. Caledonia also got a goal from Jacob Bianchi as well. In addition, Caledonia received assists from Matt Rimac, who had one and Mitch Graham and Corey Pawley, who each chipped in two. Ancaster's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 54 minutes in penalty time. The Avalanche had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Ancaster excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Avalanche kept the Corvairs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mark Sinclair made 29 saves on 31 shots. Ancaster was led by Max Balinson, who tallied one goal. Balinson scored on the power play 13:52 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. The Avalanche had gained a power play chance when Fitzmorris was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Owen Norton provided the assist. Fedor Gordeev also scored for Ancaster. More assists for Ancaster came via Zach Lawrence, Owen Burnell, and Ryan Cox, who contributed one each. For Caledonia, Nick Zottl, Rimac, Chadd Bauman, and Hore were ejected from the contest. Ancaster registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Team's Michael Pollice and Burnell were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
