Ancaster boosted by Calas' play in net, beats Welland 6-1

Matt Calas stood on his head and made 25 saves to lead the Ancaster Avalanche to a 6-1 victory over the Welland Jr. Canadians.

Owen Burnell had a great game for Ancaster, netting two goals. Burnell scored at 16:08 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Ancaster and again while 8:48 into the second to make the score 5-1 Ancaster.

The Avalanche forced Welland's goalies to work between the pipes, firing 31 shots and forcing 25 saves. Brandon McCorriston made 10 stops and Chris Janzen made 15.

Ancaster also got points from Cole Nagy, who also registered one goal and one assist and Joshua Pace, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Ancaster also had goals scored by Michael Pollice and Lucas Pozzobon, who each put in one. More assists for Ancaster came via Ben Hughes, Jesse Hilton, and Ryan Knill, who contributed one each and Owen Norton and Matt Mannella, who each chipped in two.

The Jr. Canadians were led by Jack Fitzgerald, who scored the team's only goal. Fitzgerald scored 19:42 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Ancaster. Nathan MacDuff assisted on the tally.

Ancaster incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Welland incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
