Leamington's Phibbs deadly on offense in 3-1 win against Sarnia

Behind a great game by Cale Phibbs, who had two goals, the Leamington Flyers defeated the Sarnia Legionnaires, 3-1.

Phibbs scored at 16:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Leamington and again while 3:12 into the third to make the score 2-1 Leamington.

Sarnia was unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Derek Elliott also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Nicolas Mainella, who had two and Aaron Langlois, Scott Emerson, Luke Sanko, and Matthew Opblinger, who contributed one each.

The Legionnaires were held below their usual level of production. Sarnia averages 3.3 goals per game.

The Legionnaires were led by Jordan Fogarty, who scored the team's only goal. Fogarty scored on the power play 4:09 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Sarnia had gotten the advantage when Leamington's Sanko was sent off for cross checking. Brad Yowart assisted on the tally.

The Flyers' Michael Barrett stopped 18 shots out of the 19 that he faced. Leamington totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Team's Joe Urbanic and Sanko were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Shayne Battler made 39 saves for the Legionnaires on 42 shots. Sarnia totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For the Legionnaires, Jacob Stos was ejected from the game.
