Ancaster outlasts Fort Erie, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Ancaster Avalanche escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Fort Erie Meteors.

Ancaster gained the winning advantage on a goal by Ben Hughes 16:22 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Owen Burnell and Hughes provided the spark for the Avalanche, combining for three goals and two assists. Burnell had two goals and one assist and Hughes also notched one goal and one assist.

Ancaster excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Avalanche's offense rang up 42 shots on Fort Erie's net. Ancaster was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Ancaster also got points from Hughes, who also registered one goal and one assist and Ryan Cox, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ancaster also got a goal from Michael Pollice as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Zach Lawrence, who had one and Owen Norton, Max Balinson, and Matt Mannella, who contributed two each.

The Meteors could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Fort Erie was led by Danial Singer, who grabbed two goals. Singer scored the first of his two goals at 6:56 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Fort Erie. Frankie Franck provided the assist. Singer's next tally made the score 3-3 with 10:18 left in the second period. Ben Evans picked up the assist. Mackenzie Lockyer also scored for Fort Erie. More assists for Fort Erie came via Bryce Martin, Paolo Sivilotti, Dakota Miskolczi, and Anthony Passero, who each chipped in one.

Cole Ceci recorded 27 saves for the Avalanche. Ancaster registered one goal on six power play opportunities. The Meteors' Brayden Lachance stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced.
