Leamington downs Strathroy in overtime, 3-2 (OT)West Middlesex Arena Sun, Dec 13, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Leamington Flyers' Mitchell Amante scored 4:11 into overtime to beat the Strathroy Rockets, 3-2 (OT). Aaron Langlois and Amante provided the spark for Leamington, combining for three goals and one assist. Langlois finished with two goals and Amante also added one goal and one assist. The Flyers' penalty kill excelled, as Leamington gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays. The Flyers stifled Strathroy's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Rockets were unable to stop Leamington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 54 shots on goal. Leamington's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Flyers finished with 22 penalty minutes. Leamington additionally got points from Amante, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Leamington received assists from J.P. Grineau, Nicolas Mainella, Derek Elliott, and Michael Barrett, who contributed one each. Strathroy stifled Leamington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Rockets' offense rang up 35 shots on the Flyers' net. Strathroy was led by Lucas Latina, who grabbed two goals. Latina scored the first of his two goals at eight seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Strathroy. Latina's next tally made the score 2-2 with 2:07 left in the second period. Kieran Milne provided the assist. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Nick Griffin, who had one. Michael Barrett made 33 saves for Leamington on 35 shots. The Flyers registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. For Leamington, Zach Guilbeault was ejected from the game. Dane Gubbels recorded 51 saves for the Rockets. Strathroy ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
