Murdaca, Niagara Falls blank Welland, 3-0

Joseph Murdaca recorded a shutout against the Welland Jr. Canadians as the Niagara Falls Canucks picked up a 3-0 win.

Niagara Falls was led by Zack Lansfield, who finished with one goal. Lansfield scored on the power play 8:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls. Sean Farquharson assisted on the tally.

The Canucks forced Jr. Canadians' goaltenders to work all game long, ripping 40 shots and forcing 37 saves. Chris Janzen made 26 stops and Brandon McCorriston made 11. Niagara Falls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Welland power plays. The Canucks' defensive play was more effective than usual against Welland. Niagara Falls averages 2.9 goals allowed per game.

Niagara Falls also had goals scored by Peter Falivena and Austin Bottrell, who each put in one. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Johnny Curran, who had two and Frank Pucci, Thomas Flack, and Cristian DiFonzo, who contributed one each.

The Jr. Canadians' offense operated below their season average. Welland averages 2.8 goals per game.

The Canucks' Murdaca stopped 28 shots out of the 28 that he faced. Niagara Falls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Canucks, Taggart Ledyard was ejected from the game. The Jr. Canadians incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
