Brown's big game bests St. Catharines in 9-2 Caledonia win

Austin Brown had one goal and four assists to lead the Caledonia Corvairs to a 9-2 victory over the St. Catharines Falcons.

Brown beat Joel Horodziejczyk with a shot 6:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Caledonia. Quentin Maksimovich picked up the assist. Brown dished an assist on Matthew Hore's goal that made the score 4-1 Caledonia at 7:53 into the second period. He then added assists on Hore's goal at 11:11 into the second, on Jake Brown's goal at 18:02 into the second, and on Brown's goal at 4:13 into the third.

Caledonia's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 64 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 37.0 minutes per game the Corvairs had been spending in the box. Caledonia forced St. Catharines' goaltenders to work in net, ripping 61 shots and forcing 52 saves. Horodziejczyk made 29 stops and Cameron Gray made 23. The Corvairs outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Caledonia averages 5.8 goals per contest.

Caledonia also got points from Maksimovich, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Brown, who also had three goals and one assist, and Hore, who also racked up three goals and one assist. Caledonia also got a goal from Matt McCartney as well. More assists for Caledonia came via Corey Pawley, who had three, Mitchell Fitzmorris and Nick Zottl, who contributed one each, and Mitch Graham, Daniel Volpe, and Johnathon Schaefer, who each chipped in two.

The Falcons' defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. St. Catharines averages 1.9 goal allowed per game. The Falcons' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as St. Catharines finished with 60 penalty minutes.

The Falcons were led by Jamie Bennett APJ, who registered one goal. Bennett APJ scored on the power play 54 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. St. Catharines had taken the advantage when the Corvairs' Hore got sent off for goalie interference. Griffin Roubos assisted on the tally. Broderick Kelly also scored for St. Catharines. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Phillip Chadder, Jake Evans, and Brandon Cercone, who contributed one each.

Mark Sinclair made 18 saves for Caledonia on 20 shots. The Corvairs registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Team's Volpe and Matt Rimac were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Falcons registered two goals on eight power play opportunities.
