Poletek lifts Guelph over Waterloo, 5-1

Chris Poletek was all over the ice for the Guelph Hurricanes, as he tallied two goals in Guelph's 5-1 win over the Waterloo Siskins.

Poletek found the back of the net 5:09 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Guelph and again while 10:59 into the first to make the score 2-0 Guelph.

The Hurricanes' Jason DaSilva was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 40 saves and let only one puck past him. DaSilva certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.34 entering the contest.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:31 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Guelph forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Hurricanes had been spending in the box. Guelph's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Waterloo power plays. Waterloo was unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Guelph eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Guelph also had goals scored by Cameron Stokes, Ryan Migliaccio, and Brody Milne, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Guelph were Sebastian Stangherlin, Corson Searles, Cameron Palmer, and Ryan Waterhouse, who contributed one each and Kevin Fitzpatrick, Jake Wyse, and Dylan Wallace, who each chipped in two.

The Siskins were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Waterloo surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game. The Siskins' offense rang up 41 shots on the Hurricanes' net.

Waterloo was led by Nate Schnarr, who scored the team's only goal. Schnarr scored 37 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Guelph. Nick Hirst picked up the assist.

Guelph registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For the Hurricanes, Lucas Dybowski was ejected from the game. The Siskins' Bailey DeGasperis stopped 32 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Waterloo ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Joel Penticost was ejected from the game.
