LaSalle survives St. Thomas comeback, wins 6-5

The St. Thomas Stars tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the LaSalle Vipers held on for a 6-5 victory.

LaSalle took a 6-2 lead during the third period, only to have St. Thomas storm back on a James Newland goal 12:11 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Vipers got the win on the strength of a great game by Eric Kirby, who had one goal and two assists. Kirby scored 3:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 LaSalle. Nolan Gardiner assisted on the tally.

LaSalle stifled the Stars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Vipers kept St. Thomas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dan Black made 27 saves on 33 shots.

LaSalle also got points from Tyler Russell, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Connor Rosaasen, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for LaSalle included Matthew Doucette, Liam MacDougall, and Manny Silverio, who scored one goal each. More assists for LaSalle came via Nathan Savage, who had two and Paolo Battisti, Clay Kraynack, and Blake Jones, who each chipped in one.

The Stars' offense rang up 47 shots on LaSalle's net.

St. Thomas was helped by Andrew Chambers, who had one goal and one assist. Chambers scored 4:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. Ethan Nother picked up the assist. St. Thomas additionally got points from Carson Brookshaw, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Adam Keyes also scored for St. Thomas. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Curtis Ferreira, Carson Moniz, Matt McJannet, Adam Truax, and Gage Stephney, who contributed one each.

The Vipers' Battisti stopped 42 shots out of the 47 that he faced. LaSalle incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Stars incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
