St. Catharines outlasts Niagara Falls, 3-2

The St. Catharines Falcons and the Niagara Falls Canucks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but St. Catharines made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Tyler Jackson's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

The Falcons were sparked by Jackson, who tallied one goal. Jackson scored 17:44 into the third period to make the score 3-2 St. Catharines. Nicholas Dozzi picked up the assist.

St. Catharines additionally got points from Jake Evans, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Brandon Vuic, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Justin Felker and Phillip Chadder, who contributed one each.

Niagara Falls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five St. Catharines power plays. The Canucks forced St. Catharines goalie Cameron Gray to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Niagara Falls was helped by Johnny Curran, who registered one goal and one assist. Curran scored on the power play 13:24 into the third period to make the score 2-2. The Canucks had gained a power play chance when James Guest was whistled for holding. Frank Pucci assisted on the tally. Niagara Falls also got points from Pucci, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara Falls were Matthew Baldinelli and Scott Grieve, who each chipped in one.

Gray recorded 34 saves for the Falcons. St. Catharines incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Niagara Falls' Joseph Murdaca stopped 20 shots out of the 23 that he faced. The Canucks incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
