Elmira wins tough contest against Waterloo, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Elmira Sugar Kings escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Waterloo Siskins.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Rob Kohli at 12:09 of the third period.

Elmira got the win thanks to a great game by Kohli, who had one goal and two assists.

The Sugar Kings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Waterloo power plays. Elmira's offense rang up 39 shots on Waterloo's net.

Elmira additionally got points from Ethan Skinner, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Zac Coulter, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Elmira also had goals scored by Jeff Jordan and Jake Moggy, who scored one goal each. More assists for Elmira came via Mackenzie MacSorley, who had two and Ryley Cribbin and Ty Biles, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins kept the Sugar Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Liam Conway made 29 saves on 32 shots.

Waterloo was led by Nate Schnarr, who registered one goal and one assist. Schnarr scored 8:41 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Nick Hirst picked up the assist. Others who scored for Waterloo included Noah Benjamin and Gary Mantz, who each put in one. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Bailey DeGasperis, Austin Bentley, Jared Lindsay, and Mitchell Rooney, who contributed one each.

Elmira totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. The Sugar Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Biles was ejected from the game. Bailey DeGasperis made 34 saves for the Siskins on 39 shots. Waterloo ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Siskins, Joshua Slegers was ejected from the game.
