Guelph outlasts Stratford, 5-3

The Guelph Hurricanes and the Stratford Cullitons were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Guelph made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Sean Power at 3:12 of the third period.

Stratford's power play was ineffective against the Hurricanes' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Guelph was sparked by Power, who registered one goal and one assist.

The Hurricanes forced the Cullitons goalie Alexander Brooks-Potts to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. Guelph was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Guelph additionally got points from Ryan Waterhouse, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Guelph also had goals scored by Stefano Pezzetta, Cameron Stokes, and Dylan Wallace, who each put in one. In addition, Guelph received assists from Jake Wyse, Kevin Gergely, Ryan Burns, Corson Searles, and Alex Ritchie, who contributed one each.

Stratford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Cullitons were helped by Tyson Baker, who had one goal. Baker scored 7:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stratford. Jared Nash provided the assist. Others who scored for Stratford included Joe Leahy and Deven Kropf, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Stratford were Jack Scanlan and Hayden Broomhead, who each chipped in one.

Jason DaSilva made 23 saves for the Hurricanes on 26 shots. Guelph registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Hurricanes ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brody Milne was ejected from the game. Stratford's Brooks-Potts stopped 28 shots out of the 33 that he faced.
