Kitchener rips Cambridge, 8-2

The Kitchener Dutchmen had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 8-2 win over the Cambridge Winter Hawks.

Connor Cole was all over the ice for Kitchener, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. Cole scored on the power play 12:52 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Kitchener. The Dutchmen had gotten the advantage when Cambridge's Alex Mutton was sent off for slashing. Taite Wirschke picked up the assist.

The Winter Hawks were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as Kitchener was able to score four times while on the power play.

The Dutchmen forced Cambridge goalie Owen Savory to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Kitchener bested its season scoring average. The Dutchmen have scored at the pace of 5.3 goals per game during the current campaign. The defensemen of Kitchener were also effective in the Winter Hawks' zone, and came away with two goals.

Kitchener additionally got points from Logan Schmidt, who also racked up two goals and two assists, Austin Gaboury, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Adam Kawalec, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Kitchener also had goals scored by Mark Bzowey, Owen Lane, and Jason Willms, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Scott Pedersen, Kyle Somani, Ryan George, and Alex Demrovsky, who each chipped in one.

Cambridge could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Winter Hawks were helped by Zack Hedley, who had one goal. Hedley scored 3:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Robert Proner provided the assist. Cambridge also got a goal from Scott Del Zotto as well. More assists for Cambridge came via Matt Steen, who had one.

Luke Richardson rejected 18 shots on goal for the Dutchmen. Kitchener incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Owen Savory made 33 saves for Cambridge on 41 shots. The Winter Hawks registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
