Caledonia penalty kill dominates in 5-1 defeat of ThoroldHaldimand Center Sat, Nov 28, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Caledonia Corvairs, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Thorold Blackhawks' power play opportunities and emerged with a 5-1 victory. Caledonia was led by Matthew Hore, who had one goal and one assist. Hore scored 10:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Caledonia. Blake Luscombe picked up the assist. The Corvairs forced Thorold goalie Josh Astorino to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. Caledonia struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 38 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays. Caledonia additionally got points from Jake Brown, who also racked up two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Caledonia included Ryan Punkari and Daniel Volpe, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Caledonia were Mitchell Fitzmorris, Nick Zottl, Jordan Brown, Corey Pawley, Johnathon Schaefer, and Tait Seguin, who contributed one each. The Blackhawks were led by Anthony Merante, who scored the team's only goal. Merante scored on the power play 17:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Thorold. Thorold earned a power play opportunity when Seguin was put in the box for tripping. Jake Lloyd provided the assist. Mark Sinclair rejected 20 shots on goal for the Corvairs. Caledonia registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Astorino recorded 35 saves for the Blackhawks. Thorold incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
