St. Catharines beats Fort Erie 7-0 as Horodziejczyk gains shutout

The St. Catharines Falcons used a sparkling performance by Joel Horodziejczyk to take down the Fort Erie Meteors, as the netminder did not allow a goal in St. Catharines' 7-0 shutout victory.

Phillip Chadder had one goal and two assists to lead the Falcons. Chadder scored 8:30 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines. Justin Felker assisted on the tally.

St. Catharines stifled Fort Erie's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Falcons surpassed their usual scoring output this season. St. Catharines averages 4.4 goals per game. The Falcons' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. St. Catharines' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Falcons finished with 46 penalty minutes.

St. Catharines also got points from James Guest, who also had one goal and one assist, Griffin Roubos, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Tyler Hildebrandt, who also had one goal and one assist. St. Catharines also got a goal from Brandon Vuic as well. In addition, St. Catharines received assists from Jake Evans, who had two and Jackson Parker, Tyler Jackson, Jack Webb, Brandon Cercone, and Brady Lee, who each chipped in one.

The Meteors' offense operated below their season average. Fort Erie puts an average of 2.9 pucks into the net per game. St. Catharines was unable to stop the Meteors from sending pucks towards the net, and Fort Erie eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Horodziejczyk rejected 39 shots on goal for the Falcons. St. Catharines registered one goal on two power play opportunities. The Meteors' starting goalie, Brayden Lachance, made 19 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Riley Daniels, who stopped two shots. Fort Erie incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
