Kawalec's big game bests Brantford in 7-1 Kitchener winGretzky Main Rink Thu, Nov 26, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kitchener Dutchmen's Adam Kawalec had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 7-1 win over the Brantford 99ers. Kawalec found the back of the net on the power play 9:50 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kitchener and again while 2:51 into the second to make the score 5-1 Kitchener.Brantford's 13 penalties came back to haunt it, as the 99ers let up five goals while on the penalty kill. Kitchener's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Brantford power plays. Brantford was unable to stop the Dutchmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Kitchener eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals. Kitchener also got a goal from Logan Schmidt as well. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Jeremy Kuehn, who had three, Austin Gaboury and Taite Wirschke, who each chipped in one, and Mark Bzowey, Owen Lane, and Connor Cole, who contributed two each. The 99ers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 46 penalty minutes. The Dutchmen's Ryan Purcell stopped 20 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Kitchener incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Tyler Caruana made 28 saves for Brantford on 35 shots.
