Kitchener survives Elmira comeback, wins 6-4

The Elmira Sugar Kings tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Kitchener Dutchmen would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4.

Kitchener made the score 6-2 on a goal by Connor Cole at 3:55 in the third period, and Elmira got as close as 6-4 when Ethan Skinner scored 19:07 into the third period.

Adam Kawalec was all over the ice for the Dutchmen, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Kawalec scored 15:09 into the second period to make the score 5-2 Kitchener. Cole assisted on the tally.

Kitchener forced the Sugar Kings goalie Liam Devine to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Dutchmen's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Kitchener finished with 32 penalty minutes.

Kitchener also got points from Marselis Subban, who also registered one goal and two assists and Cole, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Kitchener also got a goal from Alex Demrovsky as well. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Jeremy Kuehn, who had two and Mark Bzowey, Taite Wirschke, and Nathan Grossi, who each chipped in one.

Elmira could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 38 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Sugar Kings were led by Mackenzie MacSorley, who tallied one goal and two assists. MacSorley scored on the power play 18:16 into the third period to make the score 6-3 Kitchener. A cross checking penalty on Matthew Cruickshank had put Elmira on the power play. Jake Moggy picked up the assist. Elmira additionally got points from Skinner, who also had one goal and one assist and Jeff Jordan, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mitch Montgomery also scored for Elmira. More assists for Elmira came via Ryan Walsh, who had one.

Luke Richardson made 26 saves for the Dutchmen on 30 shots. Kitchener registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Devine rejected 33 shots on goal for the Sugar Kings. Elmira registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. For the Sugar Kings, Dawson Shackelton was ejected from the game.
