Guelph wins tough contest against Brantford, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Guelph Hurricanes escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Brantford 99ers.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Dylan Wallace's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Brantford's power play was ineffective against Guelph's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Hurricanes were led by Chris Poletek, who finished with one goal. Poletek scored 4:01 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Guelph. Corson Searles picked up the assist.

Guelph's offense rang up 31 shots on the 99ers' net.

Guelph also got points from Cameron Palmer, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Guelph also had goals scored by Ryan Waterhouse and Alex Ritchie, who each put in one. In addition, Guelph received assists from Sean Power, Nicholas Bird, Cameron Stokes, Kevin Gergely, and Tyler Burns, who each chipped in one.

Brantford forced the Hurricanes goalie Jason DaSilva to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The 99ers were helped by Macklin McPhee, who registered one goal. McPhee scored 2:16 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Justin Donnelly assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Brantford included Christian Polillo and Jack Phibbs, who scored one goal each. More assists for Brantford came via Guy Polillo, Kyle Walker, Isaac Nurse, Brandon Scanlin, and Brett Parsons, who contributed one each.

Jason DaSilva made 35 saves for Guelph on 38 shots. The Hurricanes totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For Guelph, Bird was ejected from the game. Brantford's Tyler Caruana stopped 26 shots out of the 30 that he faced. The 99ers ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Brantford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jay Dekker was ejected from the game.
