Listowel's comeback falls short, Kitchener wins 6-5

The Listowel Cyclones almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Kitchener Dutchmen managed to pull out a 6-5 win in the end.

Kitchener led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Dutchmen's Connor Cole scored short handed at 17:16 in the first period to put Kitchener up 4-1.

The Dutchmen's penalty kill excelled, as Kitchener gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

The Dutchmen were paced by Adam Kawalec, who finished with one goal and one assist. Kawalec scored on the power play 12:29 into the third period to make the score 6-5 Kitchener. Kitchener earned a power play opportunity when Blake Pickering was put in the box for interference. Matthew Cruickshank provided the assist.

Listowel was unable to stop the Dutchmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Kitchener eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Dutchmen's defense was uncharacteristically lax during the game. Kitchener averages 2.4 goals allowed per game. The defensemen of the Dutchmen were also effective in the Cyclones' zone, and came away with two goals.

Kitchener additionally got points from Scott Pedersen, who also had one goal and one assist and Cole, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Kitchener included Mark Bzowey, Austin Gaboury, and Taite Wirschke, who each put in one. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Logan Schmidt, who had two and Jason Willms and Jeremy Kuehn, who each chipped in one.

Listowel's offense rang up 36 shots on Kitchener's net.

The Cyclones were led by Jamie Huber, who racked up two goals and one assist. Huber scored the first of his two goals at 3:18 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Kitchener. Brady Anderson picked up the assist. Huber's next tally made the score 5-5 with 11:47 left in the third period. Keaton Willis assisted on the tally. Listowel also got points from Anderson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Listowel also had goals scored by Jordan Caskenette and Holdyn Lansink, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were Tim Nauta, who had two and Ray McFalls and Caleb Warren, who contributed one each.

Tanner Topham recorded 31 saves for the Dutchmen. Kitchener incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. Listowel's Tyler Fassl stopped 26 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Cyclones incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
