Elmira uses early goal to top Brantford, 3-1

Mackenzie MacSorley gave the Elmira Sugar Kings the lead in the first period, and the Brantford 99ers was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-1.

A goal 5:10 into the first period by MacSorley proved to be the game winner, and powered Elmira to the victory. Quinten Bruce picked up the assist.

Zac Coulter had a great game for the Sugar Kings, netting two goals. Coulter scored at 16:22 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Elmira and again while 19:07 into the third to make the score 3-1 Elmira.

Brantford was stymied by Elmira's netminder Liam Devine, who stopped 32 shots during the victory. Devine managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.42 prior to the game.

The Sugar Kings forced the 99ers goalie Tyler Caruana to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

In addition, Elmira received assists from Rob Kohli, Ethan Skinner, and Ryan Walsh, who each chipped in one.

Brantford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Elmira power plays. The 99ers' offense rang up 33 shots on Elmira's net.

Brantford was led by Jack Phibbs, who scored the team's only goal. Phibbs scored 5:34 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. Brett Parsons provided the assist.

The Sugar Kings incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Caruana recorded 28 saves for the 99ers. Brantford incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. The 99ers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Macklin McPhee was ejected from the game.
