Sarnia hangs on, beats London 4-2

Hunter Tyczynski gave the Sarnia Legionnaires the lead in the first period, and the London Nationals was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 4-2.

Sarnia took over the lead for good with a goal by Tyczynski at 18:14 in the first period. Ryan Vendramin picked up the assist.

The Legionnaires got the win on the strength of a great game by Vendramin, who had two goals and one assist. Vendramin scored the first of his two goals at 2:29 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Sarnia. Brandon Layman assisted on the tally. Vendramin's next tally made the score 3-1 Sarnia with 8:18 left in the third period. Sarnia had taken the advantage when London's Callum Ruddock got sent off for tripping. Jordan Fogarty picked up the assist.

The Legionnaires' penalty kill excelled, as Sarnia gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:46 into the third period. Twelve fighting penalties were dished out along with 11 game misconducts.

The Legionnaires racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and three majors for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game Sarnia had been spending in the box.

Sarnia additionally got points from Brock Perry, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Konnor Roskovich, who had one.

The Legionnaires were unable to stop the Nationals from sending pucks towards the net, and London eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

The Nationals were helped by John Warren, who tallied one goal. Warren scored on the power play 18:46 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Sarnia. London had gotten the advantage when Sarnia's Brad Yowart was sent off for holding. Austin Kemp provided the assist. London also got a goal from Rai Di Loreto as well. In addition, London received assists from Scott Dorion, Kyle Robinson, and Trevor Dulong, who contributed one each.

The Legionnaires' Aidan Hughes stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. Sarnia registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Team's Sam McCormack, Zack Vanderwal, and PJ Vandervaart were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Connor Hughes made 25 saves for the Nationals on 28 shots. London ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors. For the Nationals, Matt Doty, Jordan Di Cicco, and Matt Bean were ejected from the contest.
