Thorold falls to Ancaster in overtime, 5-4 (OT)Thorold Community Arena Thu, Nov 19, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ancaster Avalanche pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Thorold Blackhawks on a clutch goal by Michael Pollice. Ancaster overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Avalanche trailed 4-2 after a goal by Thorold's Cal Davis at 4:16 in the third period. Ancaster tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Matt Mannella at 19:27 in the third period. Pollice had a great game for the Avalanche, netting two goals. Pollice found the back of the net 9:50 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 3:57 into the fifth to make the score 5-4 Ancaster. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:59 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Ancaster's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Avalanche had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. Ancaster put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Blackhawks to score on any of their eight power plays. Thorold was unable to stop the Avalanche from sending pucks towards the net, and Ancaster eventually piled up 34 shots on goal. Ancaster also had goals scored by Lucas Pozzobon and Ryan Cox, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ancaster received assists from Ryan Sullivan, Cole Nagy, and Fedor Gordeev, who each chipped in one and Ryan Knill and Owen Burnell, who contributed two each. The Blackhawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Ancaster power plays. Thorold forced the Avalanche goalie Matt Calas to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Anthony Merante also scored for Thorold. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Anton Trublin, who had two and Jake Lloyd, Aaron Nunes, David D`Agostino, and Adam Kozlowski, who each chipped in one. Calas rejected 33 shots on goal for Ancaster. The Avalanche ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cox was ejected from the game. Josh Astorino recorded 29 saves for the Blackhawks. Thorold ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Blackhawks, Tyler Sehovic was ejected from the game.
