Kitchener wins tough contest against Waterloo, 3-2

The Kitchener Dutchmen and the Waterloo Siskins were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Kitchener made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jeremy Kuehn's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Dutchmen were led by Owen Lane, who had one goal. Lane scored 15:25 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Kitchener. Nathan Grossi picked up the assist.

Kitchener kept Waterloo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mitchell Datz made 35 saves on 38 shots.

Kitchener additionally got points from Connor Cole, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Kuehn, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Scott Pedersen, Marselis Subban, and Adam Kawalec, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

Waterloo was helped by Connor Bodnar, who racked up one goal. Bodnar scored on the power play 18:46 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kitchener. The Siskins had taken the advantage when the Dutchmen's Grossi got sent off for interference. Luke Gazzola assisted on the tally. Waterloo also got a goal from Joshua Slegers as well. In addition, Waterloo received assists from Andrew Lane, Jesse Hewak, and Owen Kipke, who contributed one each.

Tanner Topham made 23 saves for Kitchener on 25 shots. The Dutchmen incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Waterloo incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
