Elmira falls to Stratford in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Stratford Cullitons' Josh Miller scored 2:45 into overtime to beat the Elmira Sugar Kings, 4-3 (OT).

Stratford was led by Miller, who finished with one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:36 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Cullitons excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Stratford kept Elmira's goalie busy throughout the game, and Liam Devine made 30 saves on 34 shots. The defensemen of the Cullitons were also effective in the Sugar Kings' zone, and came away with two goals.

Stratford also had goals scored by Anthony Kotsovos, Jack Scanlan, and Zach Van Louwe, who scored one goal each. In addition, Stratford received assists from Justin Graham, who had two and Joe Leahy, Jared Nash, Dylan Lebold, Zander Pryor, and Hayden Broomhead, who contributed one each.

Elmira was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Sugar Kings had been averaging 15.0 minutes in penalties per game. Elmira put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Stratford to score on any of its five power plays. The Sugar Kings' offense rang up 31 shots on the Cullitons' net.

Elmira was helped by Ryan Maksymyk, who tallied one goal. Maksymyk scored 9:15 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jeff Jordan assisted on the tally. Elmira also got points from Zac Coulter, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Elmira also got a goal from Rob Kohli as well. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Ryley Cribbin, Quinten Bruce, and Mackenzie MacSorley, who each chipped in one.

Stratford's Nick Redman stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Cullitons ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Stratford ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyson Baker was ejected from the game. For the Sugar Kings, Jake Moggy was ejected from the game.
