Stratford beats Listowel 4-3 after comeback scare

The Stratford Cullitons survived a determined comeback attempt by the Listowel Cyclones on the way to a 4-3 win.

A goal by Jack Scanlan put Stratford up 4-1 in the second period, but Listowel pulled to within one on Holdyn Lansink's tally 1:32 into the third period.

The Cullitons pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 30 penalty minutes.

The Cyclones were unable to stop Stratford from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cullitons eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Stratford's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Cullitons were helped by Josh Miller, who registered one goal. Miller scored on the power play 9:02 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Stratford. Stratford earned a power play opportunity when Lansink was put in the box for head contact. Joe Leahy provided the assist. Others who scored for Stratford included Cooper Stahl and Tyson Baker, who scored one goal each. In addition, Stratford received assists from Dylan Lebold, Tristan Hohl, Hayden Broomhead, Zach Van Louwe, and Justin Graham, who each chipped in one.

Listowel forced the Cullitons goalie Carson Poulin to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Cyclones struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays.

Listowel was led by Jamie Huber, who finished with two goals. Huber scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:29 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Cyclones had gained a power play chance when Baker was whistled for roughing. Tim Nauta picked up the assist. Huber's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Stratford with 1:35 left in the second period. Austin Huizenga provided the assist. More assists for Listowel came via Keaton Willis, who had two.

Poulin recorded 34 saves for Stratford. Tyler Fassl made 28 saves for Listowel on 32 shots. The Cyclones registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
