Welland rides Janzen to victory over Pelham, 5-1

Chris Janzen stood on his head and made 25 saves to lead the Welland Jr. Canadians to a 5-1 victory over the Pelham Panthers.

Welland was led by Jake Shaw, who had one goal. Shaw scored on the power play 9:21 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Welland. The Jr. Canadians had gained a power play chance when Jesse Burger was whistled for slashing. Max Cipriano assisted on the tally.

Welland forced Pelham goalie Stephen Harvey to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. The Jr. Canadians found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Welland averages 2.9 goals per game.

Welland also got points from Brayden Crowder, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Welland also had goals scored by Jack Fitzgerald, Bradey Johnson, and Dorian Maye, who each put in one. More assists for Welland came via Cole Hamilton and Owen Peacock, who contributed one each and Steven Farano and Tyler Stranges, who each chipped in two.

The Panthers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Pelham was led by Riley Hollowell, who scored the team's only goal. Hollowell scored on the power play 18:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pelham. The Panthers had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Canadians' Crowder was sent off for interference. Adam Petric picked up the assist.

Welland incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Stephen Harvey made 32 saves for Pelham on 37 shots. The Panthers registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
