Chatham holds on for 5-4 win against St. ThomasChatham Memorial Arena Sun, Nov 01, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Chatham Maroons survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. Thomas Stars on the way to a 5-4 win. Chatham took a 5-3 lead during the third period, only to have St. Thomas storm back on a Carter McCormick goal 19:26 into the third period to pull to one goal down. The Maroons forced the Stars goalie Nikolas Dampier to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Chatham was led by Austin Thompson, who finished with three goals. Chatham also had goals scored by Connor McKinnon and Ross Krieger, who scored one goal each. In addition, Chatham received assists from Gus Ford, who had two and Dede Cato, Michael Douglas, Connor Koviak, Steven Beenackers, Ian Faubert, and Teddy McGeen, who contributed one each. St. Thomas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Maroons to score on any of their three power plays. Chatham was unable to stop the Stars from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Thomas eventually piled up 33 shots on goal. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Stars were led by Matt McJannet, who racked up two goals. McJannet scored the first of his two goals at 13:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ethan Nother picked up the assist. McJannet's next tally made the score 2-2 with 8:25 left in the second period. Carson Brookshaw assisted on the tally. St. Thomas additionally got points from McCormick, who also tallied one goal and one assist. St. Thomas also got a goal from Carson Esipu as well. More assists for St. Thomas came via James Newland, Cal Horvat, and Andrew Chambers, who each chipped in one. Parker Butler recorded 29 saves for the Maroons. Chatham incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Dampier rejected 36 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
