Black leads St. Thomas to shutout victory over Sarnia

Dan Black was superb between the pipes for the St. Thomas Stars, as he did not allow a goal in a 4-0 victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires.

Spencer Hutchinson had one goal and two assists to lead St. Thomas. Hutchinson scored 14:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas. Ethan Nother provided the assist.

The Stars' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Sarnia power plays. St. Thomas forced Sarnia goalie Shayne Battler to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

St. Thomas additionally got points from Nother, who also tallied two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. St. Thomas also got a goal from Matt McJannet as well. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Jake Reed, Curtis Ferreira, Carson Moniz, James Newland, and Carson Brookshaw, who each chipped in one.

The Legionnaires could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Sarnia averages 2.9 goals per game. The Legionnaires kept the Stars' goalie busy throughout the game, and Black made 36 saves on 36 shots.

St. Thomas totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. For the Stars, Matt Clarke was ejected from the game. Shayne Battler made 30 saves for Sarnia on 34 shots. The Legionnaires ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. For Sarnia, Jacob Stos and Ethan Dupont were ejected from the contest.
