Nicolas Mainella gave the Leamington Flyers the lead in the first period, and the Strathroy Rockets was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 2-0.

Mainella provided Leamington with the game-winning tally when he scored 15:10 into the first period. The Flyers had gained a power play chance when Jeff Clarke was whistled for high sticking. J.P. Grineau picked up the assist.

Michael Barrett frustrated Strathroy's offense all game, and stopped 25 shots en route to a shutout. Barrett managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.26 prior to the game.

Leamington was paced by Mainella, who racked up one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:58 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Leamington was held below its usual level of production. The Flyers put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Leamington forced the Rockets goalie Mat Ouellet to work between the pipes, taking 50 shots.

Cale Phibbs also scored for Leamington. More assists for Leamington came via Zach Guilbeault, who had one.

Strathroy was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and three majors for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game the Rockets had been spending in the box. Strathroy's offense operated below its season average. The Rockets average 2.4 goals per game.

The Flyers totaled 29 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and three majors and went 1-for-5 on the power play. For Leamington, Jacob McGhee, Joe Urbanic, and Luke Sanko were ejected from the contest. Strathroy's Ouellet stopped 48 shots out of the 50 that he faced. Team's Nick Griffin, Max Ewart, and Matt McGhee were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
