Kitchener survives Waterloo comeback, wins 5-3

The Waterloo Siskins almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Kitchener Dutchmen managed to pull out a 5-3 win in the end.

Kitchener led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Dutchmen's Alex Demrovsky scored on the power play at 18:56 in the first period to put Kitchener up 3-0.

Connor Cole was all over the ice for the Dutchmen, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Cole scored the first of his two goals at 14:10 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Kitchener. Jeremy Kuehn provided the assist. Cole's next tally made the score 5-3 Kitchener with 4:53 left in the third period. Kitchener had gotten the advantage when Waterloo's Owen Kipke was sent off for interference. Logan Schmidt picked up the assist.

The Dutchmen forced the Siskins goalie Mitchell Datz to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Kitchener also got points from Marselis Subban, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Kuehn, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Mark Bzowey, who had one and Adam Kawalec, who had two.

Waterloo's offense rang up 33 shots on Kitchener's net. The Siskins were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of nine man advantages. Waterloo could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 42 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Siskins were helped by Gary Mantz, who registered two goals and one assist. Mantz scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 8:21 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kitchener. A cross checking penalty on Kyle Somani had put Waterloo on the power play. Nate Schnarr assisted on the tally. Mantz's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 13:01 left in the third period. Schnarr picked up the assist. Waterloo additionally got points from Schnarr, who also had one goal and two assists. More assists for Waterloo came via Drayton Duckett, who had two.

Luke Richardson made 30 saves for the Dutchmen on 33 shots. Kitchener totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 3-for-10 on the power play. The Dutchmen ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Bzowey was ejected from the game. Datz recorded 31 saves for the Siskins.
