Chatham takes care of Strathroy early, wins 6-1

The Chatham Maroons jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Strathroy Rockets, 6-1.

Strathroy was stymied by Chatham's netminder Parker Butler, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Butler managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.74 prior to the game.

The Maroons' penalty kill excelled, as Chatham gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Maroons forced the Rockets' goaltenders to work between the pipes, racking up 49 shots and forcing 43 saves. Dane Gubbels made 17 stops and Mat Ouellet made 26.

Chatham was helped by Teddy McGeen, who grabbed one goal. McGeen scored short handed 14:36 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Chatham. An interference call on Mark Fratarcangelli put the Maroons on the penalty kill. Chatham additionally got points from Dede Cato, who also had one goal and one assist, Luc Knight, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Steven Beenackers, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Chatham also had goals scored by Austin Thompson and Ian Faubert, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Chatham were Brayden Hopkins, who had one and Connor McKinnon and Gus Ford, who contributed two each.

Strathroy also got a goal from Matt McGhee as well. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Matt Laberge and Lucas Latina, who each chipped in one.

Chatham incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Strathroy incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
