Fort Erie falls to Ancaster in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Ancaster Avalanche's Ben Hughes scored 21 seconds into overtime to beat the Fort Erie Meteors, 4-3 (OT).

Ancaster came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Avalanche fell behind 3-0 after a short handed goal by Fort Erie's Mackenzie Passero at 18:10 in the second period. Ancaster knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Ryan Cox at 17:18 in the third period.

With three goals and one assist between them, Joshua Pace and Hughes teamed up to power the Avalanche's offense. Pace racked up two goals and Hughes also added one goal and one assist.

Ancaster forced the Meteors goalie Riley Daniels to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The defensemen of the Avalanche were also effective in Fort Erie's zone, and came away with two goals.

Ancaster additionally got points from Hughes, who also registered one goal and one assist and Cox, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Ancaster came via Matt Mannella, who had two and Jesse Hilton, Owen Norton, Cole Nagy, and Owen Burnell, who contributed one each.

The Meteors' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Ancaster power plays. Fort Erie's offense was handcuffed by Ancaster's defensive play, and the Meteors managed only 14 shots on goal during the game.

Fort Erie was led by Holden Garlent, who had two goals. Garlent scored the first of his two goals at 6:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Fort Erie. Anthony Passero provided the assist. Garlent's next tally made the score 2-0 Fort Erie with 6:41 left in the second period. The Meteors had taken the advantage when the Avalanche's Hughes got sent off for unsportsmanlike conduct. Ben Evans picked up the assist. In addition, Fort Erie received assists from Darien Kielb, Tristan Drescher, and Declan Conway, who each chipped in one.

Matt Calas rejected 11 shots on goal for Ancaster. The Avalanche incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Ancaster ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Max Balinson was ejected from the game. Riley Daniels made 30 saves for Fort Erie on 34 shots. The Meteors incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
