Stratford outlasts Elmira, 4-2

The Stratford Cullitons gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Elmira Sugar Kings.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jack Scanlan's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Stratford was paced by Scanlan, who tallied one goal and one assist. Scanlan scored 18:34 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Stratford. Drew Gross provided the assist.

The Cullitons managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Stratford finished below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cullitons' offense rang up 38 shots on Elmira's net.

Stratford additionally got points from Gross, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Stratford also had goals scored by Zach Van Louwe and Josh Miller, who scored one goal each. In addition, Stratford received assists from Joe Leahy, Jared Nash, Quinton Haddock, and Justin Graham, who contributed one each.

Stratford was unable to stop the Sugar Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Elmira eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

The Sugar Kings were helped by Zac Coulter, who grabbed one goal. Coulter scored 12:12 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Elmira. Ethan Skinner picked up the assist. Quinten Bruce also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Mackenzie MacSorley, who had one.

Nick Redman recorded 35 saves for the Cullitons. Stratford registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Liam Conway rejected 34 shots on goal for Elmira. The Sugar Kings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors.
