Kitchener blows out Elmira, 4-1Kinsmen Arena Tue, Oct 20, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kitchener Dutchmen were firing on all cylinders against the Elmira Sugar Kings, and when the final buzzer sounded Dutchmen emerged with a 4-1 win. Kitchener was led by goalie Cossimo Lazzarino, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Lazzarino will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.52. The Dutchmen pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 28 penalty minutes. Kitchener kept Elmira's goalie busy throughout the game, and Liam Conway made 27 saves on 31 shots. The Dutchmen were helped by Owen Lane, who tallied one goal. Lane scored 2:11 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Kitchener. Matt Scott provided the assist. Kitchener also had goals scored by Logan Schmidt, Austin Gaboury, and Adam Kawalec, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Kitchener were Matthew Cruickshank, Jason Willms, Connor Cole, and Jeremy Kuehn, who contributed one each. The Sugar Kings' offense operated below their season average. Elmira puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. The Sugar Kings were led by Quinten Bruce, who scored the team's only goal. Bruce scored on the power play 6:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Kitchener. Elmira had gained a power play chance when Kawalec was whistled for high sticking. Ryan Walsh picked up the assist. Kitchener registered one goal on four power play opportunities. The Sugar Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Team's Kyle Soper and Walsh were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
