Cambridge boosted by Savory's play in net, beats Brantford 4-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Owen Savory helped the Cambridge Winter Hawks defeat the Brantford 99ers, 4-1.

Cambridge was sparked by Alex Mutton, who racked up one goal. Mutton scored short handed 16:11 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Cambridge. A high sticking call on Cole Cummings put the Winter Hawks on the penalty kill.

Cambridge put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brantford to score on any of its five power plays. The Winter Hawks kept the 99ers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Will Rawski made 49 saves on 53 shots.

Cambridge also got points from Scott Del Zotto, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Cambridge also had goals scored by Matt MacKay and Jake Beard, who each put in one. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Matt Steen, who had two and Chris Poletek and Rob Grant, who each chipped in one.

Brantford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Cambridge power plays. The 99ers' offense rang up 32 shots on Cambridge's net.

Brantford was led by Christian Polillo, who scored the team's only goal. Polillo scored 6:14 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cambridge. Guy Polillo picked up the assist.

Owen Savory made 31 saves for the Winter Hawks on 32 shots. Cambridge incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The 99ers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
