Crowder leads Welland over Pelham, 9-1

The Welland Jr. Canadians had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 9-1 win over the Pelham Panthers.

Pelham was stymied by Welland's netminder Brandon McCorriston, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. McCorriston managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.18 prior to the game.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:31 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Jr. Canadians forced the Panthers' goalies to work between the pipes, getting 52 shots and forcing 43 saves. Corey Foster made 30 stops and Stephen Harvey made 13. Welland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Pelham power plays. The Jr. Canadians' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Welland averages 3.2 goals per contest. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with four goals.

The Jr. Canadians were led by Brayden Crowder, who racked up one goal and three assists. Crowder scored on the power play 14:36 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Welland earned a power play opportunity when Alexander Hester was put in the box for tripping. Tyler Stranges picked up the assist. Welland additionally got points from Nathan Ferris, who also registered two goals and one assist, Jack Fitzgerald, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Nathan MacDuff, who also grabbed two goals and one assist, and Stranges, who also tallied one goal and four assists to lead the team in points. Welland also had goals scored by Max Cipriano and Bradey Johnson, who each put in one. In addition, Welland received assists from Adam Barron, who had two and Caleb Ambrosio and Matt Martin, who each chipped in one.

Pelham was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Panthers surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. Pelham's penalty kill was ineffective, and let in six goals to the Jr. Canadians' power play unit.

Other players who recorded assists for Pelham were Adam Petric and Hunter Swain, who contributed one each.

Welland ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Jr. Canadians, Dorian Maye was ejected from the game. Team's Hester and Thomas Young were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
