St. Thomas' Brookshaw deadly on offense in 6-3 win against Chatham

The St. Thomas Stars relied on the scoring touch of Carson Brookshaw, who netted two goals, to beat the Chatham Maroons, 6-3.

Brookshaw found the back of the net 6:47 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Thomas and again while 12:06 into the second to make the score 4-2 St. Thomas.

St. Thomas pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Stars forced Maroons' goalies to work between the pipes, getting 43 shots and forcing 37 saves. Brendan Johnston made 21 stops and Parker Butler made 16.

St. Thomas also got points from Ryan Valentini, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. St. Thomas also had goals scored by Carter McCormick, Gage Stephney, and Andrew Chambers, who scored one goal each. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Spencer Hutchinson, who had two, Eric Henderson, who had three, and Curtis Ferreira, Matt Clarke, Matt McJannet, and Brody Smith, who contributed one each.

St. Thomas was unable to stop Chatham from sending pucks towards the net, and the Maroons eventually piled up 46 shots on goal.

Chatham was led by Austin Thompson, who had two goals. Thompson scored the first of his two goals at 16:13 into the first period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas. Ian Faubert picked up the assist. Thompson's next tally made the score 3-2 St. Thomas with 10:42 left in the second period. The Maroons had taken the advantage when the Stars' McCormick got sent off for tripping. Dede Cato assisted on the tally. Hunter Burk also scored for Chatham. More assists for Chatham came via Ben Nicholls, Gus Ford, Steven Beenackers, and Blair Derynck, who each chipped in one.

St. Thomas' Dan Black stopped 43 shots out of the 46 that he faced. The Stars registered one goal on two power play opportunities. Chatham incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
