LaSalle holds on for 3-2 win against Leamington

The LaSalle Vipers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Leamington Flyers on the way to a 3-2 win.

LaSalle took a 3-1 lead during the third period, only to have Leamington storm back on a Scott Emerson goal 15:02 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Vipers were led by Manny Silverio, who racked up one goal and one assist. Silverio scored on the power play 10:48 into the third period to make the score 3-1 LaSalle. LaSalle had taken the advantage when the Flyers' Luke Sanko got sent off for roughing after whistle.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:56 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Vipers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 26.0 minutes per game LaSalle had been spending in the box. The Vipers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Leamington power plays. Leamington was unable to stop LaSalle from sending pucks towards the net, and the Vipers eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

LaSalle also had goals scored by Kyle Auger and Blake Jones, who scored one goal each. In addition, LaSalle received assists from Nikko Sablone, Liam MacDougall, and Connor Rosaasen, who contributed one each.

The Flyers were often in penalty trouble, totaling 19 minors and one major for 93 minutes in penalty time. Leamington surpassed its season average of 36.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flyers forced LaSalle goalie Eli Billing to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

Leamington was helped by Derek Elliott, who tallied one goal. Elliott scored 1:24 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Leamington. Zak Parlette picked up the assist. Leamington also got points from Emerson, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Leamington were Mitchell Amante, who had one.

The Vipers' Billing stopped 40 shots out of the 42 that he faced. LaSalle registered two goals on 15 power play opportunities. The Vipers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matthew Doucette was ejected from the game. Michael Barrett made 29 saves for the Flyers on 32 shots. For Leamington, Jacob McGhee was ejected from the game.
