Stratford rides Redman to victory over Waterloo, 2-1

The Stratford Cullitons relied on the sparkling performance of Nick Redman in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Waterloo Siskins.

Stratford was sparked by Hayden Broomhead, who racked up one goal. Broomhead scored 14:52 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Stratford. Tyson Baker picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:58 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

The Cullitons were held below their usual level of production. Stratford averages 4.6 goals per game. The Cullitons' offense rang up 40 shots on Waterloo's net.

Stratford also got a goal from Josh Higgins as well. In addition, Stratford received assists from Zach Van Louwe, who had one and Justin Graham, who had two.

The Siskins' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Waterloo surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. The Siskins stifled Stratford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Waterloo kept the Cullitons' goalie busy throughout the game, and Redman made 33 saves on 34 shots.

The Siskins were led by Gary Mantz, who scored the team's only goal. Mantz scored on the power play 10:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Waterloo. A fighting penalty on Brock Heshka had put Waterloo on the power play. Nick Hirst assisted on the tally.

Stratford totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Cullitons ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Heshka was ejected from the game. Mitchell Datz rejected 38 shots on goal for the Siskins. Waterloo registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For the Siskins, Austin Bentley was ejected from the game.
