St. Thomas rides Dampier to victory over London, 2-1

The St. Thomas Stars relied on the sparkling performance of Nikolas Dampier in net to grab a 2-1 win against the London Nationals.

St. Thomas was paced by Brody Smith, who registered one goal. Smith scored 6:24 into the third period to make the score 2-1 St. Thomas. Adam Truax picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:26 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Stars put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow London to score on any of its five power plays. St. Thomas' offense rang up 44 shots on the Nationals' net.

Matt McJannet also scored for St. Thomas. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Spencer Hutchinson and Carson Brookshaw, who each chipped in one.

London was often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Nationals surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. London excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 10 chances.

The Nationals were led by Kyle Robinson, who scored the team's only goal. Robinson scored 3:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 London. Tanner Ferreira provided the assist.

Dampier recorded 28 saves for the Stars. St. Thomas ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. For the Stars, James Newland was ejected from the game. London's Zack Weir stopped 42 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Nationals ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Trevor Dulong was ejected from the game.
