Kitchener hangs on, beats Brampton 3-1

The Kitchener Dutchmen took the lead against the Brampton Bombers in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

Kitchener took over the lead for good with a goal by Alex Demrovsky at 11:12 in the first period. The Dutchmen had taken the advantage when Brampton's Carmine Vietri got sent off for hooking. Zachary Masterson assisted on the tally.

Kitchener's Cossimo Lazzarino was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. Lazzarino managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.42 prior to the game.

The Bombers' power play was ineffective against the Dutchmen's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Kitchener put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Brampton to score on any of its six power plays. The Dutchmen could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Kitchener puts an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. The Bombers were unable to stop the Dutchmen from sending pucks towards the net, and Kitchener eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Dutchmen could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kitchener was helped by Logan Schmidt, who registered one goal. Schmidt scored on the power play 13:24 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kitchener. The Dutchmen had gained a power play chance when Jordan Oshowy was whistled for high sticking. Connor Cole picked up the assist. Kitchener additionally got points from Demrovsky, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Jeremy Kuehn also scored for Kitchener. In addition, Kitchener received assists from Austin Gaboury, who had one.

Brampton's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Bombers finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Kitchener registered two goals on 11 power play opportunities. Jason Rhynold rejected 38 shots on goal for Brampton. For the Bombers, Justin Coles was ejected from the game.
