Strathroy falls to Sarnia in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Sarnia Legionnaires' Brandon Layman scored 3:59 into overtime to beat the Strathroy Rockets, 4-3 (OT).

Strathroy could not complete its climb out of a two-goal hole. Sarnia made it 3-1 on a goal by Hunter Tyczynski at 15:45 in the third period. The Rockets got to within 3-2 on a goal by Max Ewart at 17:17 in the third period.

The Legionnaires were led by Layman, who had one goal.

Sarnia's offense rang up 47 shots on Strathroy's net.

Others who scored for Sarnia included Jarret Marks and Alec DeKoning, who scored one goal each. More assists for Sarnia came via Jacob Stos, Zack Vanderwal, Ben Derrough, Brendan Shagena, and PJ Vandervaart, who contributed one each.

The Rockets stifled the Legionnaires' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Strathroy was led by Riley O`Connell, who tallied two goals. O`Connell scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 13:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Rockets had gained a power play chance when Vandervaart was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Matt Laberge picked up the assist. O`Connell's next tally on the power play made the score 3-3 with 1:03 left in the third period. Wesley Kelly provided the assist. In addition, Strathroy received assists from Shane Bulitka, Kieran Milne, and Noah Tooke, who each chipped in one.

Shane Battler recorded 27 saves for Sarnia. The Legionnaires totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play. Sarnia ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sam McCormack was ejected from the game. Dane Gubbels rejected 43 shots on goal for Strathroy. The Rockets totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Strathroy, Codey McRoberts was ejected from the game.
