Niagara Falls pulls away in second, rolls over Thorold, 6-1

The Niagara Falls Canucks used a three-goal second period to put away the Thorold Blackhawks, 6-1.

Niagara Falls was led by goalie Joseph Murdaca, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. Murdaca managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.66 prior to the game.

The Canucks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 32 penalty minutes.

Niagara Falls kept Thorold's goalie busy throughout the game, and Josh Astorino made 26 saves on 32 shots. The Canucks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Niagara Falls averages 2.5 goals per game.

The Canucks were helped by Zachary Plumb, who registered one goal. Plumb scored 8:06 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls. Matthew Baldinelli provided the assist. Niagara Falls additionally got points from Frank Pucci, who also finished with two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Zack Lansfield, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Peter Falivena also scored for Niagara Falls. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Thomas Flack and Matthew Marsden, who each chipped in one and Sean Farquharson and Luke Laurin, who contributed two each.

Niagara Falls was unable to stop the Blackhawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Thorold eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Blackhawks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 31 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

Thorold was led by Anthony Merante, who scored the team's only goal. Merante scored on the power play 11:17 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. The Blackhawks had taken the advantage when the Canucks' Taggart Ledyard got sent off for cross checking. Aaron Nunes assisted on the tally.

Thorold registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. The Blackhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Daniel Pugliese was ejected from the game.
