Balinson leads Ancaster over Pelham, 6-3

Max Balinson had two goals and one assist to lead the Ancaster Avalanche to a 6-3 victory over the Pelham Panthers.

Balinson's tallies came at 9:52 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Ancaster and on the power play 13:58 into the second to make the score 5-3 Ancaster.

Pelham was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Ancaster was able to score four times while on the power play.

The Avalanche's offense rang up 38 shots on the Panthers' net. The defensemen of Ancaster were also effective in Pelham's zone, and came away with two goals.

Ancaster additionally got points from Cole Nagy, who also racked up two goals and two assists to lead the team in points and Ryan Cox, who also had one goal and two assists. Ryan Knill also scored for Ancaster. Other players who recorded assists for Ancaster were Matt Mannella, who had two and Ben Hughes, Lucas Pozzobon, Zach Lawrence, Zach Jackson, and Fedor Gordeev, who each chipped in one.

The Panthers forced Avalanche's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 38 shots and forcing 35 saves. Matt Calas made 10 stops and Cole Ceci made 25. Pelham's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Panthers finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Pelham was helped by Adam Petric, who grabbed two goals. Petric scored the first of his two goals at 7:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pelham. Alexander Hester assisted on the tally. Petric's next tally made the score 2-2 with 3:46 left in the first period. A cross checking penalty on Ryan Sullivan had put the Panthers on the power play. Riley Hollowell picked up the assist. Pelham also got points from Hester, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Pelham received assists from Synee Coonishish, who had two.

The Avalanche incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Corey Foster made 32 saves for Pelham on 38 shots. The Panthers registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Pelham, Jesse Burger was ejected from the game.
