Sarnia wins tough contest against Lambton Shores, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Sarnia Legionnaires escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Lambton Shores Predators.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Jacob Stos's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Brandon Layman had two goals to lead Sarnia to victory. Layman scored at 9:51 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Sarnia and again while 19:40 into the third to make the score 4-2 Sarnia.

The Legionnaires put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Lambton Shores to score on any of its four power plays. Sarnia could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Sarnia also got a goal from Hunter Tyczynski as well. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Ethan Dupont and PJ Vandervaart, who each chipped in one.

The Predators forced the Legionnaires goalie Shane Battler to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Lambton Shores was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time.

The Predators were helped by Brenden Trottier, who finished with one goal. Trottier scored 7:34 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Andrew Kim picked up the assist. Connor Merritt also scored for Lambton Shores. In addition, Lambton Shores received assists from Ben Woo, Christian Babineau, and Ethan Sarfati, who contributed one each.

Battler recorded 29 saves for Sarnia. The Legionnaires registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Anthony Hurtubise made 23 saves for Lambton Shores on 26 shots. The Predators ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ryan Fraser was ejected from the game.
